The Human Catapult

This is our project: The Human Catapult. Lots of parents say that there is too much traffic, in some cases, bad weather, adds a lot of time to their commute, and way too many stop lights. Our "marshmallow" will be catapulted to school in a giant airbag that bounces and gets us there. Our solution, the catapult, copies the way the Mars Rover lands on the Martian Surface. There is a computer that measures the speed of the wind in the direction it travels. It then measures how far you will bounce and then does the work by pulling the catapult down, and you scream and DO think that you may not make it throughout the day! The catapult is a new way to get to school, and it WILL be improved!

Reflection
This project made me think of how hard it is for my parents to drive me to school when I started to ask the questions and write the notes about their commute. I then thought: how could I fix these problems? And then it hit me, the Human Catapult! I started the project and as it was coming along, I thought of all the new things that I could add like the airbag. I started thinking and then realized: is this really possible? I decided to come back to the question the next day. That night, I was on my laptop and just searching stuff, so I started searching up quotes by people, so I came across this one quote, by Albert Einstein: Imagination is far greater than creation. It got me thinking that no one would ever think of TVs, cars, or phones. So I thought, why not start this project and make whatever comes to me like the computer and fact that it could land you right at your locker. Thus, THE HUMAN CATAPULT!

Feedback
I did not get any feedback because it was not presented, but the only thing I thought was that you did not need a computer for the catapult, you only need to plug in your iPhone and it will figure out how far that the school is and that you could download an app that does all the measurements. But that is when someone asked me: what if you don't have an iPhone. That made my idea go to the fact that you could use an iPod or even iPad. And then the next question was: how do you get back home? So the answer to that is: instead of buses, you have a line of catapults at school with computers that save your data (some catapults come with the iPhone part, others with the computer) and then they do the math and all that you have to do is put in your ID. This means that you can also go to a friend's house.

Redesign
There are two things that I would redesign in a project like this:
1) Something that could be used right now. Brainstorming futuristic ideas are much more fun and interesting, but I want to do something that is helpful to the parents right now.
2) Instead of an airbag, maybe something with wings so that it is much more smooth and not so rough. Many people might mess up on tests or other important things because that are dizzy or nauseous from the bumpy ride.
